Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located just 4 hours drive from Mbarara Town and offers some of the finest montane forest birding in Africa and is a key destination for any birder visiting Uganda and home of the mountain gorilla trekking tours. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of the few forested parks in Africa and it is home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas, with over 545 individual based on most recent gorilla census.
Of Uganda’s forested reserves, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known for its superb gorilla tracking, but it also provides refuge to elephant, chimpanzee, monkeys and various small antelope and bird species. Gorilla trekking within Bwindi Forest can either be done in the southern sector or the Northern Sector, all granting enriching experiences.
